 2016 Preview

Hillcrest completed the 2015 season with a 8-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region one, the Jaguars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Hillcrest made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Bayside Academy team by the score of 36-0.

The Jaguars won as many games as in any season since 2000. The 429 points scored by the Jaguars last year were a team record in a single season.

Since 2010, Hillcrest has gone a combined 33-34. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hillcrest has managed to compile a record of 107-158. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A and 279th in the AHSAA.

The Jaguars are led by head coach Clinton Smith who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-6 record in his first season at Hillcrest. The Jaguars saw improvement from a 4-7 record the season before coach Smith arrived. Under his direction the Jaguars have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith.

Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 8-6 (57.1%).

The Hillcrest Jaguars will play in Class 3A region one during the 2016 season. Hillcrest will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Jaguars could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season.

Unfortunately, Hillcrest plays in a region with the likes of Bayside Academy, Flomaton, Mobile Christian and T.R. Miller making it more difficult to claim one of the four playoff spots. The Jaguars will need to find a way to upset one of those teams and win another three region games to have any chance at the post season.

Running back Mikyle Dees returns for his senior season after rushing for 729 yards and 6 touchdowns as a junior last year.

The Jaguars open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Linden on Friday, August 26 at Brooks Memorial Stadium. Last year the Linden Patriots finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 1A region four. The Patriots lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 50-19.

Hillcrest and Linden have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 2-2-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in with
